A few of my Favorite things . . .
Non Profits | December 17, 2020
Many of my favorite events are provided by nonprofit organizations, year after year I have come accustomed and expectant of their presence.

This year has been anything but traditional to say the least. From the coronavirus to protests, school closures, ice storms and power outages, Oklahoma has seen its fair share of well, everything. Our favorite traditions and nonprofit events have looked a little different but in many cases the show went on.

The Oklahoma City Zoo made many adjustments to create a safe and fun environment, by requiring reservations they restricted crowds to allow visitors a much safer experience. Unfortunately, this means that our favorite Zoo likely saw decreased revenues. Memberships to the Oklahoma City Zoo are truly for the whole family. Attending their annual ZooBrew is a family tradition and our children love to frequently check in on their favorite primates. There is still time to buy your annual membership, this makes a great Christmas gift visit: http://www.zoofriends.org/membership to purchase one today.

Lyric Theater's A Christmas Carol is another family tradition. I am not sure who came up with the new method of delivering the show but WOW! When Lyric Theater announced the show would be performed outdoors at the Harn Homestead, I won't lie there was a bit of hesitation but as I read on, the traveling experience sold me. The audience travels from scene to scene spending twenty minutes at each. To be honest, I hope this arrangement never goes back. There are a few more shows this year, don't regret missing out visit: https://lyrictheatreokc.com/shows/lyrics-a-christmas-carol-2020/ for more information.

The Nutcracker: Short and Sweet. I love the nostalgia that this show brings me each year as a former ballerina. My daughter is finally old enough to attend and we don't plan to miss it. This year the show has been shortened to one hour, perfect for those who have never attended. Due to COVID-19 the Cox Convention Center will be practicing social distancing so ticket availability is greatly reduced. There will be temperature checks at the door and merchandise will be provided online this year. I can't wait to see what my daughter's review will be... and yours! https://www.okcballet.org/performance/the-nutcracker/

Many of my favorite events are provided by nonprofit organizations, year after year I have come accustomed and expectant of their presence. However, COVID-19 has made the best of our businesses close their doors. Things may look and feel a little different this year but our nonprofits need our support now more than ever before. Who knows, you may find a new "favorite" activity by trying something new.
